Guadalupe Mountains National Park protects the world's most extensive Permian fossil reef, now exposed as towering limestone peaks rising 3,000 feet above the Chihuahuan Desert. The park encompasses Guadalupe Peak—Texas' highest point at 8,749 feet—along with McKittrick Canyon's fall colors, the gypsum dunes of Salt Basin, and the historic Frijole Ranch.
